Why the darkest day of the year holds the most light for creativity

As I write this, we're just days away from the winter solstice - that magical moment when the earth pauses in its dance around the sun, when darkness reaches its peak and light begins its slow return. In my North London studio, I've been thinking about how this ancient rhythm of death and renewal weaves itself through everything I create.

The secret isn't in the price tag - it's in the intention

Every December, I watch the same pattern unfold. Beautiful, expensive gifts are given with love and received with gratitude. But by January, some have already begun their journey to the back of jewellery boxes, while others have claimed permanent places in daily rotation, destined to become family treasures.

The most treasured pieces in any collection are those that reward discovery - jewellery that reveals new layers of meaning each time you look closely. My Hippocampi Collection is my most experimental work to date.

In most jewellery studios today, the design process begins with a computer. CAD software renders perfect technical drawings, every measurement precise, every angle calculated. It's efficient, it's modern, and it produces flawless results.

So why do I still reach for my paintbrush?
